Peter Cataldo - Zibaldone 8

How a building meets the sky is not often talked about because the sky is usually viewed as an infinite vertical space. There is no physical connection to the sky. The sky is just a space that houses the building and provides a background.
However, when one thinks about it, they can realize that there is an important relationship between them. A building can connect to the sky in many ways. A building can seemingly have no defining edges, which gives the impression that the building in continuing to grow taller and taller. Others have more defined edges. Some of those edges can define a building’s height and make it seem as though a building is pushing itself against the sky. Other buildings give the impression that they are reaching for the sky. The height is defined, but there is a directional quality to the building that is achieved.
