Architecture is defined by culture, from its construction, to
the materials, to the buildings significance. The Parthenon was a stone carved
construction that consists of multiple pieces of large stone carved by hundreds
of people. Today stone carving or sculpting is considered a fine art skill only
practiced by few individuals. However there it was considered common practice. There,
the building is made up of essentially only stone which is also structural.
Here we use multiple materials held up by steel structures covered or should I
say ornamented with stone to give the illusion of heavy masonry. There the
building was a temple, it was the situation, but here our buildings are
different with the same ideas, which can be occupied by anyone at any time, they
are situational. The Parthenon is there and we are here.
