Perlroth - Zibaldone 1

It is the idea of a building that frames my perception of the world. The fundamental concept of a building involves the construction and combination of smaller components to essentially create one large inclusive component. This process then fulfills its intended function, which is to provide a communal and protective environment. The composition of a geodesic dome, for example, is a series of individual circles which, when configured a certain way, intersect to create a network of triangular elements.  These elements work together to distribute the stress across the entire structure. The individual triangles work in unison so that the dome, as a whole, is structurally sound. However, if you remove a number of triangles, the remaining triangles are forced to work harder, which can then lead to the failure of the entire structure.
I believe the same idea applies to how the world works. It is made up of many thousands of individual communities that make up a larger, global society. When all of the components within the communities work in unison, like the triangles of the geodesic dome, they provide a safe and secure environment on a global scale. This includes providing life’s essential needs including food, shelter, economic stability and the opportunities for improving the community’s efforts to meet those needs. If individual communities falter in any significant way, then its members may experience the hardships of hunger, crime, and potentially severe economic downturns, which could spread to other communities. Other communities, therefore, should be expected to carry an increased load in helping those less fortunate in order to maintain the structural integrity of the global society.
